Act 2 Scene 1 Summary

Act 2, Scene 1
Location: Outside Capulets orchard.
Characters: Benvolio, Mercutio and Romeo.
Time: Late Sunday night.
Events: Romeo and his relatives, Mercutio and Benvolio exit the party, Romeo is constantly thinking about his love for Juliet and wants to go back to the party to see her. Mercutio and Benvolio don’t know anything about Juliet at the moment so they call Romeo to go home but Romeo hides as Mercutio calls out for him still thinking he’s in love with Roseline and jokes around about it.  Benvolio then decides that they should just leave, Benvolio words – ” Go then, for ’tis in vain to seek him here that means not to be found.”  Shakespeare uses this quote to explain how Mercutio and Benvolio should leave Romeo behind as he is hiding and doesn’t want to be found.
