Act 4 Scene 2,3,4

Act 4 Scene 2,3,4
Time: Tuesday Afternoon, Tuesday Night, Wednesday morning.
Location: CApulets House.
Characters: Servingman 1, 2, and 3, Juliet, Nurse, Lady Capulet, Capulet.
Events: Juliet get backs from hearing the plan from Friar Lawrence and apologizes to her father (Capulet) and tells her family to continue with the wedding. Capulet decides to make it a day earlier as he doesn’t know Juliet’s plan. Shakespear used Dramatic Irony in this situation to keep the audience hooked on. Juliet goes to her room with the nurse, Lady Capulet comes into the room and asks if Juliet needs help. Juliet politely asks the nurse and lady capulet to leave the room so she can go to sleep, but really she needs to be alone so she can take her potion from Friar Lawrence. She hesitates about taking the potion as she thinks that it could kill her or it won’t work. As time passes and shes still worrying about the scenarios that could happen, she lays a dagger beside her in case the potion won’t work. She finally took the potion as a toast for her love of Romeo.Juliet- ” What if the mixture do not work at all?Shall i be married tomorrow morning? No, No, this shall forbid it; lie thou there”. The next morning her family is getting ready for the wedding and Lady Capulet ordered the nurse to go wake Juliet up.

Act 4 Scene 1 summary

Act 4 Scene 1
Time: Tuesday Morning.
Location: Friar Lawrence’s cell.
Characters: Paris, Juliet, Friar Lawrence.
Events: Paris talks to Friar Lawrence about the wedding and what day it will be, Juliet, walks in saying that she isn’t her wife. Paris talks about how he owns Juliet’s face that has been abused by her crying. Paris leaves and Juliet explains to Friar Lawrence that she would rather kill herself than marry Paris. Juliet- ” Do thou but call my resolution wise, and with this knife, I’ll help it presently”.Friar Lawrence comes up with a plan that she goes along with the plan to marry Paris, late Wednesday night when she goes to sleep alone she drinks what Friar Lawrence gave her and that will put her asleep for 40 hours. the drink should make Juliet look dead and they shall place her in the Capulets Toom. Then Friar Lawrence and Romeo will be there for her waking and Juliet will run away with Romeo.

Act 3 Scene 5

Act 3 Scene 5
Time: Tuesday Early morning
Location: Capulets house
Characters: Juliet, Romeo, Nurse, Lady Capulet, Capulet
Events: Romeo awakes after the first night with Juliet, Romeo has to leave and they both find it hard to say goodbye but Romeo has to go because he can’t be seen in Verona let alone Juliet’s room. Lady Capulet comes storming into the room and speaks of Romeo as a villain, a villain that killed Tybalt. She announces her big news of Juliet’s marriage with Paris, Juliet hates the idea because of shes deeply in love with Romeo. Capulet has big plans for the wedding and so pleased of his daughters soon to be husband. Juliets disagrees with the marriage making Capulet very angry and threatens her that if she does not marry Paris she will be thrown onto the street. Juliet turns to her mother for help Juliet begs her mother to just delay the wedding but lady Capulets does not agree. She cant marry Paris because she is already married to Romeo and it would be a sin against God as well as betraying Romeo. The Nurse believes that Juliet should marry Paris Juliet is annoyed that even the Nurse isn’t on her side. Juliet has one option left and that is to go and see Friar Lawrence and if he can’t help then she has no other choice but to commit suicide.

Act 3 Scene 4

Act 3 Scene 4
Time: Monday late evening.
Characters: Lady Capulet, Capulet, Paris.
Location: Capulets house.
Events: Capulet and Lady Capulet decide that Juliet and Paris should get married soon as Juliet is still upset about Tybalt’s death and Romeo’s banishment ( the capulet and lady Capulet do not know about). Capulet thought there is no better way to cheer her up than marrying a rich man. Capulet goes all ahead with the idea and decides Juliet and Paris should get married next week. Capulet- ” A’Thursday let it be-a’Thursday, tell her, he shall be married to this noble earl”.

Act 3 Scene 3 Summary

Act 3 Scene 3
Location: Friar Lawrence’s cell.
Time: Monday night.
Characters: Nurse, Romeo, Friar Lawrence.
Events: Romeo is hiding out at Friar Lawrence cell waiting to hear about his punishment, Friar Lawrence updates him and tries to convince Romeo that banishment could be a good thing. Romeo compares banishment as its worse than death and that he would rather commit suicide. Romeo is to focus on the fact that he’ll never see Juliet again. There is then a knock on the door Friar Lawrence tells Romeo to hide as it could be the prince’s men trying to find him, Romeo refuses to hide, luckily it was only Juliet’s nurse. The nurse tells Romeo how upset Juliet is which doesn’t help Romeo out but turned out that Friar Lawrence and Nurse is letting Romeo have one last night with Juliet while Friar Lawrence tries to pardon Romeo from the prince so Romeo can come back to Verona and make his marriage public with Juliet. Romeo recovers and runs off to see Juliet. Romeo- ” Ha, Banishment? be merciful, say ‘death’: for exile hath more terror in his look, much more than death. Do not say banishment”.

Act 3 Scene 2

Act 3 Scene 2
Location: Capulets House.
Characters: Nurse, Juliet.
Time: Monday Night.
Events: Juliet patiently waits for Romeo to turn up but the nurse returns with bad news. The nurse talks to Juliet about a certain death, Juliet thinks Romeo has been killed or had killed himself. The nurse doesn’t leave her thinking and tells Juliet that Tybalt had been killed by Romeo, Romeo had been banished from Verona. Juliet says that after all Romeo is still her husband and that she needs to talk to him, Juliet was very unhappy about Romeo being banished. Juliet asks for her mother and Father. Juliet – ” Come, cords, come, Nurse, I’ll to my wedding bed, And death, not Romeo, take my maidenhead”. This quote explains how Romeo has been banished before Juliet could lose her virginity to her husband, Juliet thinks she’ll die a virgin. Juliet sends nurse off to find Romeo.

Act 3 Scene 1 Summary

Act 3 Scene 1
Location: A Public Place in Verona
Characters: Mercutio, Benvolio, Tybalt, Romeo, Officer, Prince, Lady Capulet, Montague.
Time: Monday Afternoon.
Events: Benvolio and Mercutio have a conversation, Tybalt then comes along and asks where young Romeo is to fight him and only him because of Romeo’s appearance at the Capulets party. Romeo came along and Tybalt instantly wanted to fight but Romeo refuses to so Mercutio fights for him. Romeo intrudes and tries to stop the fight, Tybalt stabs Mercutio in under Romeo’s armpit, Mercutio dies crying.  Romeo then struggles with Mercutio’s death and goes after him and kills him.  Romeo ” O, I am fortunes fool” – Romeo. The prince comes along and asks Benvolio whats going on, Benvolio tells him everything.  Lady Capulet, Montague and Prince all have a discussion Prince then decides that Romeo will be exiled from Verona.
Romeo – ” This day’s black fate on moe days doth depend, This but begins the woe others must end”.

Act 2 Scene 5 Summary

Act 2 Scene 5
Location: Capulets house.
Characters: Nurse, Juliet.
Time: Midday Monday
Events: Juliet sends Nurse to find Romeo to see if there still going through with the marriage. She waits for the Nurse to return, she talks about how long she is taking, Nurse enters with the news but stalls and does not tell her. Shakespeare does this to build suspense for the audience. The nurse goes on about how her body aches and goes on to Juliet about how handsome Romeo is but can be rude as well but tells Juliet that she approves of him for her happiness. Nurse – “He is not the flower of courtesy, but i’ll warrant him”.  At this point juliet still doesn’t know that the wedding is happening but after all the Nurse mentions to Juliet the arrangements of the wedding. Juliet is full of excitement. Juliet – ” Hie to high fortune! Honest Nurse, farewell”

Act 2 Scene 4 Summary

Act 2, Scene 4
Location: A street in Verona.
Characters: Mercutio, Benvolio, Peter, Nurse, Romeo.
Time: Midday Monday.
Event: Benvolio and Mercutio talk about Romeo’s whereabouts and talks about how he is still sad about Rosaline not knowing about Juliet and would not be able to take on Tybalt by himself, Romeo then turns up and has some banter to Mercutio. The banter starts to get a little off hand and becomes more unfriendly so Benvolio buts in.  The relationship between Mercutio and Romeo is being really good friends. The nurse then shows up to find Romeo to ask if Romeo and Juliet are still arranging to get married. Romeo tells the nurse about the arrangements and sends her back off to tell Juliet where and when they shall get married. the nurse agrees and gets on her way back. Nurse – ” Paris is the proper man, but i’ll warrant you”

Act 2 Scene 3 Summary

Act 2, Scene 3
Location: Friar Lawrence’s cell.
Characters: Romeo, Friar Lawrence.
Time: Monday morning
Event: Romeo hurries to Friar Lawrence’s cell from having no sleep because he is in a hurry to get married to Juliet. Friar Lawrence talks about how herbs can be very good but can also be deadly, he compares this with men. ” Within the infant rind of this weak flower poison hath residence, and medicine power: for this, being smelt, with that part cheers each part being tasted, stays all senses with the heart. Two such opposed kings encamp them still in man as well as herb, grace and rude will; and where the worker is predominant”. romeo then enters the scene with the line ” Good morrow father” and Friar Lawrence talks about why he is up so early and that it must be because he is sick or that he hasn’t even been to sleep. Romeo says he hadn’t slept and Friar Lawrence through he was with Rosaline. Romeo announces that he has forgotten that name but does not hate anyone and that he has just moved on. Friar Lawrence reminds him about how upset he was at that he had a tear-stained on his cheek. Friar Lawrence also talks about how he likes what he sees but does he really have feelings for her. Friar Lawrence- ” Young men’s love then lies not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes”. He uses this quote to say does he really have feelings for her or is it just what he sees in her, but Romeo seems to have a deep love for Juliet.
