Scene 3 Summary

Act 1, Scene 3
Location: Capulets house.
Characters: Lady Capulet, Nurse, Juliet, Servingmen.
Time: Sunday Afternoon.
Events: Lady Capulet decides to tell Juliet and her nurse about Paris and his proposal of marriage. Lady Capulet tells Juliet about how he is the man for her mostly because he has a lot of money to share. The nurse goes back in time to figure out how old Juliet is and explains how she brought her up. Lady Capulet tells the nurse to shut up so Juliet can say her opinion on the matter. Lady Capulet explains to Juliet that at her age mothers are made as she had Juliet around the age of 13 so it’s the perfect time to get married. Lady Capulet announces to Juliet that Paris will be at the party tonight and that she should get to know him. Juliet tells her mother that she may like Paris by the look of him but could not fall in love with him.  Juliet- “I’ll look to like, if looking liking move, But no more deep will I endart my eye than your consent gives strength to make it fly.”
