1. Three things about gatsby that i found weird in the scene of them driving into new york was when he got pulled over and showed the officer this card which was practically a get out of jail free card, this shows that Gatsby has a lot of strength and power behind his name. Gatsby also tells nick a lot of thing about him as he tells nick he doesnt want him to get the wrong idea about him from all the stories you hear about him, Gatby wants to apear like hes not a bad guy and doesnt want nick to make first impressions of him because of what he hears. Hes got all these props to back his story.
2. Meyer Woldsheim is an associate with Gatsby, hes a gambler and claims he fixed the worlds series in 1919.
3. Gatsby dissapears when nick goes up to talk to tom buchanan because gatsby has history with his wife and it makes him feel uncomfortable talking to the husband of potentially the love of gatsbys life. Gatsby knows daisy but hasnt spoke to her much since they hit it off. Gatsby wants to meet wkth daisy over the next couple of days which means gatsby still has a thing for her and wants top persue his feelings for but tom buchanan daisy husband is in his way and that makes Gatsby feel uncomfortable around him so thats when he left.
4. Its hard to tell if daisy was really interested in Gatsby as she was very young and didnt know much but jordan describes her as “ engrossed” in gatsby. Daisy might have just liked the attention and have no real feelings for him or maybe she had genuin feelings but she was very young.
5. Nick realises that gatsby purposly bought a house that sits just across the bay and not far from where daisy lives so he could be closer to her.  
6. Green is symbol of hope and dreams.

Question 1

Nick describes the people and gatsby parties and says “ that once there the guests conducted themselves according to the rules of behaviour associated with amusement parks” by this what can you conclude is nick’s opinion on gatsby party guests?

Nick states that the behaviour is associated by amusement parks so you would think he means that they are wild, all over the show. Nick thinks its a bit childish.

Question 2

Who is owl eyes? What surprises him about gatsby’s library? Why would this impress them?

Man with owl eyed glasses and he is surprised by gatsby’s library because they are all real books which you don’t normally find and the owl eyed man thinks he’s a fraud but doesn’t judge him for it because he’s impressed. Not many people owned real books because they are really expensive back in 1920s.

Question 3

Nick says “ i was looking at an elegant young roughneck…whose elaborate formality of speech just missed being absurd. Some time before he introduced himself id got a strong impression that he was picking his words with care”

Fitzgerald is trying to convey that they really dont know what kinmd of person he really is and he probabably has tp be really careful about what hes saying because he might not be the person hes betraying to be. Gatsby didnt wnat to say anything offensive to make people not like him he wants us to think of him in a specific way.

Question 4

Towards the end of the party, we have the unflatering description of husbands and wives and also the drunkwho has crashed his car what is fitzgerald deeper message to us?

That the parties get wild and serious stuff happens at gatsby that probably shouldnt happen but happens anyway, all troubkle might revolve around him. Nick doesnt like the behaviour. Not everything as its seems. When achohole involved they show there true side. They all appear as if they have perfect lifes but when it comes to parties and

Question 5

Gatsby can put on a face and that his smile is quite mysterious and no one really knows what his personal life is really like but  nick still portrays him as a confusing man. But no one really knows what hiding behind that smile it could be a place of darkness and troublesome. He goes on about his smile because he looks up to gatsby.

Chapter 2 questions

1. The valley of ashes is a valley where lower-class people live and is in the process of growth but not the good kind. Its surrounded by mountains of ash and symbolises the plight of the poor and hopelessness.
2. We know that Myrtle wilson is not an intellectual because she is convinced that’s she’s loved deeply and truly by tom and he would at some point leave his wife for her. Changes her personality with her outfit. Acts if tom will do anything for her. Thinks about herself.
3. “ with the influence of the dress her personality had also undergone a change” He uses the word costume to describe myrtle outfit change because did she not only change her dress but also changed her personality along with it. Shows how she’s materialistic because she thinks she can change her personality along with what she wears
4. Those snippets tell us that gatsby has a lot of power and strength, he must think because he’s got a lot of money that he has every power in the world. Since he does have a lot of money everyone knows him by being rich. Most people find the rich big headed and intimidating.
5. “Was within and without, simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life” This reveals that he takes in all the information and absorbs everything in.

How does conflict reveal the message the message of the play?
Conflict is shown throughout the whole play as it starts right from the beginning in the prologue. It explains the conflict between the two families and continues throughout the play despite the love Romeo and Juliet have for each other. Other examples of conflict in the play would be the internal conflict in Juliet as she is a capulet and has fallen in love with a Montague and explains that its fate and Juliet cant control what happens but she cant help to feel the conflict within herself even though its destined to happen.

Romeo is saying that there will be consequences in what is about to happen and that something is destined to happen. He will find out that night and his thoughts will expire.

Juliet is saying that if Romeo is married she would prefer to die then marry somebody else that isn’t him. 

Fate

ROMEO

Just before Romeo heads over to the Capulet ball, where he falls in love with and meets Juliet, he tells us that he has a funny feeling—like something “hanging in the stars” (something destined to happen) will get moving. Uh-oh. We have a feeling, too—a bad feeling.

Juliet
“If he be married my grave is like to be my wedding bed.”
Juliet see Romeo and it was at love at first and explains of Romeo is married she will refuse to marry anyone and would rather die. 

JULIET 
My only love sprung from my only hate!
Too early seen unknown, and known too late!
Prodigious birth of love it is to me
That I must love a loathèd enemy.
(1.5.152-155)

ROMEO, rising up
Spakest thou of Juliet? How is it with her?

JULIET

Romeo and Juliet uses conflict and opposites expand its ideas.

Character in Romeo and Juliet are not always what they seem.
” Deny thy father and refuse thy name. Or, if thou wilt not. Be sworn my love, and ill no longer be a capulet”- Juliet

Characters in Romeo and Juliet aren’t always what they seem.  Juliet is men’t to be capulets little daughter who respects his rules and morals but as time goes on she falls in love at first sight as she sees Romeo a member of their families enemy. As Juliet states ” Deny thy father and refuse thy name. Or, if thou wilt not. Be sworn my love, and i’ll no longer be a capulet.”. Juliet then betrays her father and continues to be with Romeo. Juliet is also abandoning her name and her family.  

Romeo and Juliet explores the complex relationship between fate and free will. ” what if this mixture does not work at all? shall i be married then tomorrow morning? No, no shall forbid it; lie thou there.” – Juliet 

Romeo and Juliet explores the complex relationship between fate and free will as Juliet is worried that her and Romeo aren’t for each other but fate has put them together. Juliet has a little bit of guilt in her stomach as she knows she’s betraying her family but she understands her love for Romeo and wants to be with him forever. Juliet- ” What if this mixtures does not work at all? shall I be married then tomorrow morning? No, no shall forbid it; lie thou there.”. 

Shakespeare language is where his true genius lies.

Luc Besson uses cinematographic techniques to control the audience perception of key characters in many ways. Besson uses camera shots, angles and movement, special effects and sound. Plava Laguna is a perfect example as there are many techniques used to make the audience perceive her in a good and delicate way.  Other characters such as Corbin, Leeloo and the Mangalors will also be discussed in the following. 

Plava laguna is looked at to have an unbelievable voice superior to any other human, with a mysterious vibe and perceived to be good. Her emotion and feeling have been shown using camera shots, angles and movement and sound. As Plava Laguna is filmed when performing up on the stage, at the start most are mid shots at level angle but as she builds, Besson adds more angles and shots including tracking, zoom, tilt, low angles, level angles and more. The first consideration Besson looked into was where to place the camera which should involve knowing what emotion you want the audience to experience at that particular time. Besson used mostly level angle for Plava laguna at the start to make the audience see her as if they saw her in real life. The level angle shot is said to be more honest, friendly and  straight forward. The level angle gives the audience a clear view of her facials and emotion so this angle is used a lot.  As we know using only level angle would get boring but as there starts to be more action going on, the shots and camera angles switch up. The zoom is used on Plava Laguna after the assistant got shot. As the camera zooms she looks like she get more energy and more emotional in her voice. Plava Laguna facials also tell a part of how she is feeling as the camera zooms right up onto her face.

Above me I see the grey stormy sky loom over me.  Getting my last banana in my anxious stomach stimulates my nerves. The injection in my arm which makes me irritable, powerful and energetic all in one emotion. The crowd, who is screaming violently and loudly gives me the extra rush of adrenaline.  The consequences go through my mind of losing, there is no way I will let my country down. The speech at the opening ceremony replays through my head ” this year we are taking it to the next level, the country that has the least gold medals will be taken over by the country that has most gold medals, don’t let your country down” The echo of this one sentence will continue to hunt me. As it replays in my head my race number is called.

I walk to my track lane as my heart is beating more than ever, my hands are placed either side of my body as I crutch down to wait for the starter pistol. Boom, the starter pistol bullet flies up into the air as I spring up and pump my legs. Beyond I see nothing but the crowd, no one in sight. Every part of my body is eager to get to the finish line which motivates me even more to keep sprinting my heart out. Only a few meters ahead of me I identify a thick long piece of red ribbon spread across the finish line, I prepare myself to dig it in for those last few strides, all of a sudden my head crosses the line as my body follows. The ribbon wrapped around my waist I raise my arms in victory. Abruptly I realise the shortness of my breathing gets worse as my chest starts to tighten and a squeezing sensation in my chest occurs. The sharp horrendous pain spreads throughout my body. I start to panic as I can’t control my body, I fall to the ground. My eyes become blurry and dreary as I hear voices surround me. Now I see and feel nothing.

Beneath me I feel what seems to be like a really hard bed. As my eyelid try to open it feels like i’m trying to lift weights off my eyes. I feel a smooth hand clench onto mine as my eyes finally open, I see my mum who looks absolutely exhausted.  Her eyes catch mine as I see that she has a tears rolling down her cheek. Only a few minutes after I had woken my coach enters the room along with a doctor and a nurse. Firstly they ask me how i’m feeling which had to have been a foolish question to ask at this point. They explain to me that I had a very severe heart attack and that i’m lucky to be alive, I see mum who is in the corner holding in her tears. All I can remember is how nervous I was at the start of the race and from there on its all a blur, I don’t even know how I did in my final. Thoughts race through my mind but all my body can cope right now is sleep I try to stay awake to talk to my coach but I feel so muggy, lethargic and sore. The disinfectant smell of the hospital reminds of the time my dad unfortunately passed away, and reminds me of why i’m really here. As I fight to stay awake I gaze out the window and see the jagged buildings and the sky finally become clear and and warming, my coach once again enters my room with a coffee. The smell of coffee fulfilled my room. ” Coach Henry may I ask why you are so happy at this exact moment?” I say with a confused look on my face, and Henry explains his excitement by saying ” I have very exciting news but I must wait until I have been given this gift for you”. What he said did not make total sense to me, what is it he has to give me.
