Romeo and Juliet: The Prologue
Two households, both alike in dignity,
Two families, who have the same social status.
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
In there city Verona, where they live, the scene was based.
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
An old family grudge that has continued and people of their city have joined.
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean
where everyone gets involved and the grudge grows.
From forth the fatal loins of these two foe,
When two people were born doomed,
A pair of star-cross’d lovers take their life;
two lovers decided to end their own live,
Whose misadventured piteous overthrows
The parents pity over there loss,
Do with their death bury their parents’ strife.
The tragic loss of the lovers finally end the grudge
The fearful passage of their death-mark’d love,
Struggling to keep it together.
And the continuance of their parents’ rage,
The parents are still at war
Which, but their children’s end, nought could remove,
The children’s death could not be forgotten,
Is now the two hours’ traffic of our stage,
We now begin to watch the two hours of our play
The which if you with patient ears attend,
Which you shall listen patiently.
What here shall miss, our toil shall strive to mend.
Will miss the hard work and strive to mend.
